Hello Wellness Enthusiast,
I just heard the other day on my favorite health guru’s Mark Hyman’s podcast that the average supermarket apple has been sitting in a warehouse for 1 year! Yikes…
With the lack of transparency from our food providers about how to optimize our wellbeing, we can experience health issues that we don't truly understand the cause of.
Instead of masking the symptoms, the functional medicine approach aims to target the root cause of your suffering. This is a method I strongly believe in, and it's one reason I want to provide some basic resources on how you can make sure you’re taking care of yourself by eating fresh, vitamin-nutrient-mineral rich foods that make you feel good!
Here are three BIG reasons to buy organic and local produce.
1, Your body 💆🏽♀️
Nonorganic produce contains chemicals + GMOs that have been tested & known to cause gut issues, cancer, & other harmful affects to the body.
Non-organically raised animals (meat and dairy) are pumped with antibiotics, hormones, & other drugs that can impact your very own hormones. Think: bad periods, depression, anxiety, and the list goes on.
ORGANIC produce, meat & dairy contains MORE nutrients like vitamin C, magnesium, and iron which keep you feeling healthy, strong, and happy. You’ll have a healthier gut which means STRONGER IMMUNE SYSTEM (hi, corona), acne-free skin, balanced serotonin levels (the happy hormone), and healthier digestion.
2. The environment. 🌎
This is obvious when you think of chemicals and their impact. No harsh chemicals = cleaner land, happier trees, and healthier animals.
3. To support local farmers. 🏡
Buying local and organic will help keep these farmers in business and doing their part to take care of you and this earth.
So, how do you do it?
For Israelis:
I have a few delivery recommendations for you:
HaOrgani - Choose your own produce.
Chubeza + Havivan - Farm shares. Receive weekly baskets of the food grown that week.
For non-Israelis:
Whole Foods, Farm shares, and I’m happy to guide you to resources if you ask.
But it's expensive...
Well, it’s actually not when you calculate item by item. Shukit, an Israeli produce delivery company, is about the same price as these organic delivery options.
You can also simply choose to only buy or avoid items on the dirty dozen list (the produce which is sprayed the most).
The Dirty Dozen List 2020 (2020)
Strawberries
Spinach
Kale
Nectarines
Apples
Grapes
Peaches
Cherries
Pears
Tomatoes
Celery
Potatoes
